Queens Street, Dumfries
The owners used to have The Anchor at Kipford, which was well worth a trip on a nice summer night, and they seem to have brought their excellent menu with them to this town center establishment. Try to get a seat upstairs through, as it can get quite noisy and smoky downstairs.

Was there again a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday night. Had tried Caven's originally, but there was a queue of over an hour to get in there, so we decided to try Madonas. It was very quiet, to be honest I don't really know why Caven's seems to be in such big demand while Madonas is no longer the place to go. The meal was fine, although some little touches had changed since the last time we were there, there wasn't quite as good a menu as before, and over all it just didn't seem to be as good as it used to be, but given the lack of alternatives in the town centre, if your're looking for somewhere to go where you won't have to wait hours to be served, it's still well worth a try.
